In 2015, Sealights innovative solution allowed to collect information from Automated Tests, analyze it and display in a dashboard. Due to the slow adaptation of automated tests, many organizations wanted to get the Sealights experience on tests performed manually by human, also called Manual Tests.
In 2017, I was part of a team which had to develop this kind of support and allow to a Quality Assurance Engineer to easily use Sealights as part of his manual tests.
Disclaimer: all information in this case study is my own and does not necessarily reflect the views of Sealights.
Sealights was designed around automated tests and lacked simple configuration and documentation, which made it hard to use by manual tester.
Since QA Engineers and Managers should be focused on testing rather on technical complexity, we wanted to allow them to use our system in a click of button, rather than in long error prone commands.
We had to develop an easy and intuitive solution that will allow users to use our system.
A Chrome extension with an interactive wizard that will help the end user to start using the product. The extension allows a QA Engineer to start a manual test and report its result to Sealights using few simple stages.
In the next version I would like to support additional use cases for QA engineers.
For example, since QA engineer tends to run the same scenario over and over, I would expect to have an Autocomplete functionality for tests names or show the names of last X tests.
Another option is to integrate with other systems in order to show the test scenario as part of the extension or issue a new bug report. This will allow them to work with a single system and improve the efficiency.
